Mike Norton

@nortonsmind

I am an entrepreneurial US Navy veteran, an author, a physicist, and an award-winning marketing strategist — but at the end of the day, I am just a dad doing what he’s got to do.

I write about the things most men are told to keep quiet about — love, fatherhood, marriage, masculinity, trauma, duty, legacy, and faith. Some of that writing is quick and barely edited, and the rest of it is careful and slow. Where you find me actually depends on which of the two you came for.

So, below you will find the companies I own, the essays I would hand you first, and every place I publish along with what to expect from each of them.

The Companies I Own

The Norton family legacy.

The Books I Have Written

Both are available on Amazon.

Yield, by Mike Norton
Yield A novel

A modern coming-of-age survival story about the burden of building a legacy worth inheriting. A father and son go into the Alaskan wilderness, and what follows is a story about fear, courage, discipline, family legacy, and the responsibility of becoming worthy of what you inherit.

Fighting For Redemption, by Mike Norton
Fighting For Redemption An Underdog’s Memoir

This memoir is based on a true story, and I wrote it as a form of self-reflective therapy. It covers my early life from birth to my early twenties. By reading about how I face and take accountability for my own Jungian shadow, you may learn something about facing yours.

Where To Find Me

Each channel has a purpose, but all of them are ruled by the same code of conduct.

Facebook Facebook facebook.com/nortonsmind This is where I am most active, and where my audience leans most heavily female. Most posts are philosophical in nature, and many are long-form, stream-of-consciousness journaling that is barely edited. I merely think aloud here — and that reflective, personal honesty is what keeps these readers coming back. Twitter Twitter twitter.com/nortonsmind My following here leans male, and the format actually suits them. Most posts are written and published on Facebook first, and then copied over. Stripped of the build-up, they land as blunt and argumentative — which is precisely the directness this audience came for. Instagram Instagram instagram.com/nortonsmind My audience here leans female. It is mostly quiet for now, but follow me for the upcoming lifestyle content featuring fitness, martial arts, wilderness survival, and cooking. This audience responds to what it can see, rather than to what is explained. Substack Substack nortonsmind.substack.com My readership here leans female, and this is where my longest and most carefully edited work lives. These essays are meant to be read slowly rather than scrolled past — as such, they are given the space that my more personal writing genuinely needs. YouTube YouTube youtube.com/@nortonsmind This is my most heavily male audience by a wide margin. For years, I merely v-journaled to my children. Now, however, I am building a tightly knit community of honorable gamers who appreciate philosophical thinking while I play short games during my usual workday breaks. LinkedIn LinkedIn linkedin.com/in/mdnorton88 This one is focused on developing professional relationships for various purposes, such as for my marketing firm. Most interactions here occur through direct messaging.

The Rules Of My Pages

Condensed from my code of conduct. It applies to every channel above, and my admins enforce it the same way I do.

What Will Get You Banned
  • Wishing harm upon my family. Any direct wish of harm upon my wife or my children is an instant ban with no warning. Most other infractions here get one warning first; this one never does. Threats, recommendations, encouragement, and any attempt to manipulate others into acting against my family are documented and reported to the authorities.
  • Manipulative behavior. Fake profiles, lying about anything, histrionic displays of victimhood, or using AI to replace authentic communication.
  • Religious or political evangelism. Speak freely about your beliefs, but my page is not your podium, nor your personal warzone. Hijacking a thread with unhinged, multi-comment rants is still proselytizing, and it is banned just the same.
  • Expressions of deep pain about my content. If it is making you spiral, you get a “mercy banning” — for your sake as much as mine.
  • Unsolicited selling. My page is not a place to sell your products and services. Build your own page for that.
  • Pitching me “ghost” ideas. I will never pass off your work as my own, and I will not tolerate anyone assuming I would.
  • Comments that miss the topic entirely. Off-topic replies hijack the thread. Read the post before you reply to it.
  • Receipts or Removal. Criticism is welcome; unsupported accusations are not. Saying “I doubt that this is true” is different from actually alleging fraud. One is a personal opinion of doubt; the other is a legal accusation. Name the specific claim you dispute and provide credible evidence. Bring receipts or be banned.
  • Betting and not paying up. We are men of our word here. If you attach a specific bet to something you said, lose it, and then go quiet or back out of your word, you are banned. A bet is a promise with a price on it, and nobody forced you to make one.
What Will Not
  • Questioning my credibility. You have every right to disbelieve anything I say. It will take more than that for me to ban you.
  • Criticism. Honest criticism and disagreement can counterintuitively make for great engagement and the discovery of deeper truths.
  • Asking me deep, personal questions. At worst I simply will not answer. It is an honor to answer them rather than small talk.
  • Racist remarks. Have at it, omnidirectionally, even about my own racial makeup. I will never report you — though understand that someone else in my audience may.
  • Long comments. Write as much as you like; length by itself will never get you banned. Just understand that you are not entitled to having it read unless you are a paying subscriber, so you may be spending a great deal of energy for nothing.
  • Quoting or screenshotting me. I actually prefer it, so long as it is done in good faith and for precision. Hold me accountable to my own words. What gets you banned is the opposite — a sweeping or skewed generalization of what I said, which is simply dishonesty.
