Norton’s Mind

Privacy Policy

What I collect, why I collect it, who else touches it, and exactly how to make it stop.

Last updated 17 September 2026

The whole thing in plain English

In short

  • I collect your name and email when you fill in one of my forms, plus whatever you choose to answer on it.
  • I use it to send you what you asked for, to write to you personally, and to tell you about the paid Substack.
  • I never sell it, rent it or trade it. Not to anyone, for any price.
  • Four companies help me run this and nothing more: Meta, Zapier, Brevo and Substack.
  • Every email has a one-click unsubscribe and it works immediately.
  • You can ask me to delete everything at any time, and I will, within thirty days.

Where your details actually go

The whole journey, start to finish

Most privacy policies describe this in language nobody reads. Here is the same thing as a picture.

  1. 1

    You fill in a form

You type your name and email, and answer a question or two.

    On Facebook, Instagram or nortonsmind.com

  2. 2

    It is carried across

An automation tool moves that entry into my mailing system. It keeps no copy of its own.

    Zapier

  3. 3

    It lands on a list

Your details sit in my mailing system. This is the only place they live.

    Brevo

  4. 4

    I write to you

You get what you asked for, and sometimes a note from me. Reply and a real person answers.

Me, or a colleague working for me

✕ You can step off at any point. One click on the unsubscribe link in any email removes you at step 3, and everything after it stops.

01Who I am

Norton’s Mind is the personal publication of Mike Norton. It is not a company department and there is no support desk. When you write, I read it.

Post: 3300 Arctic Blvd, Suite 201 PMB 1404, Anchorage, AK 99503, United States
Email: michael@nortonsmind.com

02What is collected

WhatWhen
Your name and email addressYou type them into a form
Your answers to form questionsYou choose to answer them
Which advertisement brought youAutomatically, so I can tell what works
Ordinary website logs and cookiesAutomatically, to run and secure the site

I do not ask for sensitive personal data, and I would rather you did not send it. No health details, no financial details, no government identifiers.

03Why it is used

  • To send you the free article or material you asked for.
  • To send occasional emails about new writing from Norton’s Mind.
  • To correspond with you personally. If you say on a form that you would like a reply, I or a colleague working on my behalf may write to you directly.
  • To tell you about the paid subscription to the Norton’s Mind Substack.
  • To measure which advertisements work, counted in totals rather than by person.

Your details are never sold, rented or traded, and you will not be signed up to anything by surprise.

04The legal basis

If you are in the United Kingdom, the European Economic Area or Switzerland, the legal basis for sending you marketing email is your consent, given when you submit a form. The legal basis for keeping a record of that consent, and for basic security and fraud prevention, is legitimate interest.

You may withdraw consent whenever you like. Withdrawing it does not undo anything already done lawfully before you withdrew it.

05Who else handles it

Four service providers process this information on my behalf, under contract, and only to provide their service.

Meta

Facebook and Instagram. Delivers the advertisements and hosts the sign-up forms attached to them.

Zapier

Carries a completed form entry from Meta into my mailing system.

Brevo

Stores the mailing list and sends the emails.

Substack

Hosts the publication and any paid subscription, under its own privacy policy.

My website host runs nortonsmind.com. Some of these providers are based in, or transfer data to, the United States. Where that involves personal data from the United Kingdom or the European Economic Area, the transfer is covered by Standard Contractual Clauses or an equivalent approved safeguard.

06How long it is kept

Your details stay on the mailing list until you unsubscribe or ask for removal. If you unsubscribe, I keep a minimal record of that request so you are not accidentally added again.

Contacts who have not opened an email in three years are removed.

The part most people are looking for

07Your rights

Wherever you live, you may ask me to do any of the following, and I will answer within thirty days.

  • Show me what you hold. A copy of the personal information I have about you.
  • Correct it. Fix anything that is wrong.
  • Delete it. Remove it entirely.
  • Stop marketing to me. No more campaign email.
  • Send it to me. Your data in a portable format.

The fastest route for marketing email is the one-click unsubscribe link at the bottom of every email. For anything else, write to michael@nortonsmind.com.

If you are in California, the same rights apply under the California Consumer Privacy Act, and you will never be treated differently for using them. I do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

If you are in the United Kingdom or the European Economic Area and my answer does not satisfy you, you may complain to your national data protection authority.

08Children

Norton’s Mind is written for adults. I do not knowingly accept sign-ups from anyone under eighteen. If you believe a child has submitted their details, write to me and I will delete the record.

09Cookies

This site uses cookies that are necessary to make it work and keep it secure, and may use cookies that count general traffic. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, though some parts of the site may then stop working properly.

10Changes to this policy

If this policy changes in a way that materially affects you, the date at the top will change and, where the law requires it, I will tell you by email.

Questions about any of this? Write to michael@nortonsmind.com and I will answer personally.
